Poem no. 19 - Cyro Pimentel

I hear within me fugitive goddesses
Played on from afar by pastoral stars.

Leaving life for the chãos of absence,
Shadows of myself remain in the home.
Like a god in transit, I am gone
To the fountain off ar-off nymphs
Who lieve in a dream, like autumn roses.

The Wind bares the trees of their silence
And the leaves falling in the nymphs´ fountain
Are exiled souls.

O the slow body! River that flows to no sea.

Cyro Pimentel (1926 - 2008) Brazil
Translated by Leonard S. Downes
