Far, far in the east is a gaping grave,
There they bury thousands of soldiers brave
For us!
In the west the humble crosses show
Where they lie dumb in many a row
For us!
Where storms are blowing over the sea,
They gave their lives so willingly
For us!
They gave their blood, their life’s desire,
They gave it all with sacred fire
For us!
And we? We can but weep and pray
For those who bloody and trodden lay
For us!
There is no word, no way to thank
All those who suffered, those who sank
For us!
