Shall I find my life‘s black story - Thomas Mann

Shall I find my life‘s black story
Turn to lustre in thy glory?
With what wonder do I see,
Lord, Thy heavenly alchemy
Clear the flesh's shame and pain
Back to purity again,
To the spouse and son of sinning
Highly from the Highest winning
Leave for earthly need where'er
To open Paraclise's door!

Thomas Mann (1875 - 1955) Germany
Translated by H.T. Lowe-Porter
