The hands that made the stuff of stars are
the hands that bled and were torn.
      The hands that mined the ore, or
the hands that made the nails are
the hands that held the flails.

The hands that hold the universe are
the hands that broke the bread.
      The hands that held the silver were
the hands that threw the stones and
the hands that diced for clothes.

The hands that measure time are
the hands that wait and knock.
      The hands that held the gun spun
the hands that robbed the poor and
the hands fought the war.

The hands of God made
the hands of man.
      Can
the hands of man
be like the hands of God?
