Marcel - Bernardo Ashetu

He climbed down off the roof
on tiptoe with his laces loose.
His morals were invigoratingly loose.
He fell on red stone
under clear winter skies
and no one understood the strange
peacock at his fancy funeral.
Only God.
And this was the sweet Marcel.

Bernardo Ashetu (1929 – 1982) Suriname
