A sincere man am I - José Martí

A sincere man am I
Born where the palm trees grow,
And I long before I die
My soul’s verses to bestow.

My verse is a gentle green
And is fiery red in part
In the forest refuge seen,
My verse is the wounded hart.

With the poor ones of this earth
I’ll cast my destiny:
The mountain stream is worth
Much more than the mighty sea.

José Martí (1853 - 1895) Cuba
