Making my breakfast
I look out through the kitchen window:
two deer
peacefully munching at my garden.
I go out to chase them away
but they look back at me
motionless.
From the underbrush
a raccoon scurries forth
staring at me too.
“Sorry, sorry my friends–
it’s your garden.”
I retreat to my kitchen
to my own way of feeding myself–
smiling at our connections.
