Birthday recollection - Bruce Levitan

It is my birthday,
a day of recollections...
but one I do not recall is my
birth
day.

Did I cry out on contact
with the cold air,
or was I slapped
(gently, hopefully)?

My parents have passed
so I'll never know.

Odd
that the most significant day
of one's life
is the one
you can least remember.

Oh well,
at least I have cake
and get to eat it
today
on my
birthday.
